The production of illegal drugs has been recognized as a severe threat to health and the environment of the United States. Meth is often produced in makeshift laboratories, such as rented apartments or hotel rooms and even mobile laboratories (automobiles). During the production of meth, a property can become contaminated with hazardous chemicals. Many chemicals used in methamphetamine “meth” labs are commonly found in homes. It has been estimated that for every one (1) pound of methamphetamine produced five (5) or more pounds of hazardous waste is generated. A majority of meth production waste is poured down drains and toilets or on the grounds of the property.
